"I started training with Martyn about 2 years ago, I had got a bit stuck in a rut with my diet and fitness and needed a push in the right direction as I was not happy with my body which was also affecting my self confidence.

Martyn from the start was very understanding and made me up a food and training plan that was tailored to me and worked around my 13 hour shifts. We also decided to build up my strength as I had been so used to just doing cardio for years and had never really lifted any weights. It wasn’t long before I noticed changes; lifting weights and fitting in training sessions became a hobby and I loved seeing how far I could push myself.

“After years of trying on my own to lose weight, I knew I needed to do something so I got recommended to Martyn Watson from a friend. As a personal trainer, Martyn keeps me motivated in a way that I love coming back week after week. 

I started with Martyn in February 2017 since doing so, I haven't looked back. The first few week's were tough but Martyn has the experience and knowledge to be able to know when to push me and more importantly, when to stop and change what we are doing. 

I think Martyn's vast knowledge and ability to support client's psychologically, physically, nutritionally set's him apart. Every session brings a degree of variety it's always interesting, fun and I always learn.

I went from not lifting any weights to being able to Deadlift 100kg...



Before starting PT I went to a couple of gym classes per week and my nutrition was terrible and I had never tracked a calorie in my life before!


My goals before starting personal training were to lose weight, feel better about myself and how I looked. I’d been struggling to achieve these previously due to my lack of knowledge with my diet and and not knowing the correct way to go about exercising to help me achieve my goals.


My training has improved massively as I now feel confident in the gym, especially using weights which I would not have gone near beforehand! I also track my calories and know a lot more about nutrition which has improved my diet.


Since starting I have gained confidence and surprised myself at how strong I can be when I work at something. I went from not lifting any weights to being able to Deadlift 100kg which was absolutely amazing! I’m now working to get even stronger, and achieve things I never previously thought possible.


Personal training has given me confidence in the gym and allowed me to perform new exercises which I wouldn’t have been comfortable trying on my own. PT also gives me motivation to stick to a structured programme and keeps me on track as well as constantly pushing me out of my comfort zone which enables me to achieve more and more. 


I’d highly recommend Martyn as he is very knowledgeable at what he does, which helps you to achieve your goals. He is very motivational and pushes you to achieve your best, when you feel like giving up on reps in a set, he believes that you can do more and encourages you to achieve more than what you originally expected.

Before starting personal training my training involved attending the gym to do either spin, body pump or LBT classes and never used any gym equipment at this point. I was trying to keep fit, but I also wanted to lose weight however this was not happening for me.

When I met Martyn my initial starting goal was to regain some fitness after having a three month period of no exercise due to illness. Soon after starting my goals then changed to losing weight and toning up for my wedding.

Martyn gave me lots of great advice for my diet and nutrition and advised of my calorie intake and what I should be aiming for. Before starting PT, although my diet was OK, I clearly wasn’t eating enough which is probably why I never seen any results by just attending classes a few times a week.

Although the classes are great, having trained with Martyn I now see why I wasn’t getting results and can’t believe in all my years at the gym I never signed up for PT sessions. Martyn tailored my training programme to make it enjoyable, variable and beneficial.

As well as advice about food and nutrition, Martyn clearly knows his stuff when it comes to the body and training and shares this with his clients so you can understand exactly how everything works.

In six months I actually lost more body fat than I thought would be possible and felt amazing on my wedding day! I also felt my confidence had grown and this helped when attending the gym to train on my own.

PT with Martyn never feels like a chore; he makes the sessions varied and enjoyable and is always very encouraging and motivating.

I also had issues with back pain and Martyn has helped tremendously with this, tailoring my exercise plan around it as well as putting a lot of work into finding out the root cause. His patience and help has been very encouraging.

Even when I had a bad week nutrition wise Martyn would never judge and would help with getting me back on track he even listened to my weekly moans!

I would recommend training with Martyn as his experience and passion for fitness speaks volumes. Nothing is ever a bother for him and he’ll keep in touch with clients outside the training sessions to make sure everything is going well. I would have no hesitation in recommending training with him.

What had you been struggling with/ need help with/ want to achieve before contacting Martyn? How long had you been bothered by those issues? How did they make you feel/ affect your life?     


Always struggled to find the motivation and mindset about going to the gym/ eating healthy. Probably like everyone else I didn't have a clue what to do and this became a mindset of... "well that's the point" or "I'll start again Monday" this was a constant battle in my own head!

How did you find/ find out about Martyn?

I joined the gym and met Martyn initially through taking some classes at the Gym Group and finally took him up on his '8 Week Fat Loss' challenge he set.


When you spoke to/ met Martyn for the 1st time, what were your initial thoughts of him? Were you assured you had made the right decision in choosing him? If so, in what ways did he do that?


Absolutely, you know if someone is genuine about their work and I can honestly say (without making his head big) he KNOWS his stuff. Yes I put in the work but also so did he. He made me feel at ease just entering the gym, built my confidence without even realising at the time. He definitely knows exactly what he's talking about and can support me through advise, stretches, work outs etc.


How did you during your time with Martyn? Did his methods suit and work for you? (Did he adapt things specifically for you, take your lifestyle, job, time, body into consideration when coaching you?)


Martyn has kept up to date and the app he's currently using is great for the programme's where it makes it a lot easier to follow my programme. He always suits the programme to suit your own goals and helps support you in the gym and even out within your session!


In what ways did Martyn help you specifically? What did he help you to do/feel/achieve?


Martyn has supported me to loose over 5 stone, and helped with not only the scales but also mentally too. I can now go into the gym more confident and not be worried about anyone looking at me, he's made me love working out and simply a much healthier and happier lifestyle. I love seeing changes in my body and this is all thanks to him!


Why should others train with Martyn?


Martyn honestly knows his stuff, from work outs to advice or pains. He genuinely is like as I call him real life google. Haha there's not much he doesn't know and if he's not sure he will always try his hardest to get you the answer you need to fix/ work on it. If you need...


To build confidence, work out programme's to suit your goals, reliable and great value for money in my eyes... he's absolutely your guy! You might even get some banter too...


What would you say to anyone thinking about contacting Martyn?


Contacting is probably the hardest part, thinking I'll do it, then putting it off.

A year on my personal fitness journey!!


I was always blessed with a slim frame (and a cracking ass even if I do say so myself!) but my thirties started to catch up with me eventually and after catching said ‘cracking ass’ at the wrong angle in the mirror early last year (you know… when all there was to do was stare at yourself in mirrors and webcams!) …I decided that my next goal was to get fit & heathy!


I quit smoking, cut down my alcohol intake by about 80%, stopped partying (thanks COVID), started eating healthier and got myself a PT (love you Martyn)


Now I can say I am in the best shape of my life and I even have abs!!

Said ‘cracking ass’ is looking better than ever, and as I move towards 39  I have never loved myself & my body more!


If you want something bad enough you’ll achieve it, it’s as simple as that. It’s all mindset.

Meditation really helped me with that. 


I got back in control of my mind and set it to work for me rather than against me!
